Plan for 4:30PM, not 5:00PM. The state lists 5:00PM for this office in its location directory, but its own live wait feed says 4:30PM — and across every day we have recorded, offices stop reporting as open at about 4:21pm. Many stop adding people to the walk-in list before that.
How busy this office gets
This is one of 20 offices the state's basic wait feed is blind to. At Spring Forest Pavilion the lobby clock is honest until the lobby fills — then the overflow moves into a text-in virtual queue, and nobody waiting in it, or sent home, is counted. So on the days worth checking, that number is a floor on your visit rather than a measure of it.
The chart below comes from the state's newer capacity feed instead — the one that counts the people waiting in their cars. It's the honest shape of the day here.
Median wait per open hour, from the state’s capacity feed — the one that counts the overflow waiting in cars, across every day we’ve recorded here. An estimate, never a promised wait.
Median wait by weekday, from the state’s capacity feed — the one that counts the overflow waiting in cars. Each bar is the median across 6–7 separate days we recorded here, so a day we happened to poll more often cannot outweigh one we polled less. We do not publish this chart at all until every weekday has at least 3 observed days behind it. An estimate, never a promised wait.
You do not have to come here
A North Carolina driver license, a Real ID and a renewal can be handled at any driver-license office in the state. These are the closest ones that are measurably calmer:
