Plan for 4:30PM, not 5:00PM. The state lists 5:00PM for this office in its location directory, but its own live wait feed says 4:30PM — and across every day we have recorded, offices stop reporting as open at about 4:21pm. Many stop adding people to the walk-in list before that.
Why there is no busyness chart for this office
This is one of 20 offices the state's basic wait feed is blind to. At Hope Valley Commons Shopping Center the lobby clock is honest until the lobby fills — then the overflow moves into a text-in virtual queue, and nobody waiting in it, or sent home, is counted. So the number keeps climbing right up to capacity and then stops counting the people who make the day bad.
For most of those offices the state's newer capacity feed fills the gap, and we chart the day from it — it counts the people waiting in their cars.
Not here. That feed does not report a wait so much as a bucket: every reading it has ever given us for Hope Valley Commons Shopping Center is a whole number of 5-minute steps, and it has never once reported less than 10 min — that is the floor, not a measurement of an empty lobby. This office sits on that floor nearly all day. Across every hour we have recorded, its busiest hour and its calmest hour differ by about 10 min, which is smaller than two steps of the feed's own resolution.
We could draw those bars. They would look like a daily rhythm and they would be the rounding. So this office gets no busyness chart until the feed says something a chart could honestly carry.
You do not have to come here
A North Carolina driver license, a Real ID and a renewal can be handled at any driver-license office in the state. These are the closest ones that are measurably calmer:
